Industry bodies lobby government to support supply teachers

Both the REC (Recruitment and Employment Confederation) and APSCo (The Association of Professional Staffing Companies) have recently lobbied government to raise and highlight the issues surrounding payment of supply teachers and support staff.

In their communications, both of the highly respected sector bodies make it clear that it is unfair to place the burden of paying National Insurance and Pension contributions on staffing companies for any furloughed workers.

Both letters have been sent to the Secretary of State for Education, Rt Hon Gavin Williamson MP.

People Group’s current position

People Group continue to work with our industry partners to lobby the government into reinstating PPN02/20 during this current closure period. This would allow CJRS to be utilised to support workers. Until government make the necessary changes to allow People Group to support workers it is not financially possible to do so. See our previous update ‘No additional support for business’.

What can you do?

To further raise the issue and put pressure on the government to act, contractors can write to their local MP. Full details of how to do this can be found on the UK Parliament website here:
