Further support for contractors

People Group are pleased to announce that we will continue making payments to eligible contractors throughout the summer holidays.

Back in May, Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced a gradual reduction in the grant available through the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) from August. In order for the scheme to continue, employers must top up wages to 80% and absorb the employer’s NI and pension costs.

With a high percentage of People Group’s contractors working in the education sector, this latest news will have a hugely positive impact on thousands of people, providing security when needed most.

Terry Hillier, People Group CEO, commented:

“We’d been waiting to seek clarification from government on a few areas relating to CJRS and payments from August. While we’ve not had any significant updates, we certainly recognised that for thousands of our contractors we had to try and help as the scheme changes,

“This decision does not come without risks and will certainly have a significant financial impact on People Group, but right from the start of this pandemic we have tried to do the right thing for our contractors and that’s what we will continue to do.

“Our contractors, no matter what sector they work in, if eligible, will continue to receive payments up until 28 August at which point we will review the situation.”

People Group were among the first to provide financial support to contractors at the beginning of April and have been lobbying strongly for additional support ever since.

For any contractors that are unsure of their status, please get in touch via either webchat or email and we’ll get back to you.
