First payments made to contractors

On Friday 03 April People Group paid all eligible contractors under the new government furlough guidelines helping thousands of workers access some pay during this most difficult of times.

For our PEO/PAYE workers, this equated to 80% of their usual wages. However, under the guidance as it stood on Friday, our umbrella contractors were set to receive just 80% of the National Minimum Wage element of their pay, a considerable reduction to their usual pay (aside from the 20% reduction).

Following many calls and lobbying of recruitment sector trade bodies, who in turn lobbied government, the guidance for umbrella furlough workers was updated on Saturday 04 April. People Group recalculated all umbrella payments and made additional payments to all umbrella furlough workers, meaning that they too are now in receipt of the true 80% of their pay.

People Group CEO Terry Hillier said:

“We are proud to play our part to support recruiters and contractors at a time of real uncertainty.  I believe it’s important to do everything we can to deliver money to People who may have gone unpaid for a month, this has been a vital lifeline for thousands.

“I must thank my fantastic team here at People Group who worked throughout their weekend to ensure our contractors got the right payments based on newly updated guidance.”
